While the oil
filter is designed to remove impurities from the
engine oil to maintain clean oil, the filter gradually
becomes clogged through continued use. When this
happens, some of the oil will go through the bypass
path without going through the filtering section
because the passage area of oil shrinks due to
clogging. In other words, oil containing impurities
enters the engine’s lubrication system, causing
overheating or even serious damage to the engine.
The effect of replacing the
engine oil with new oil will be decreased if the
oil filter remains dirty. Also, there is no means
to inspect the filter for clogging. Therefore,
periodically replace the filter by deciding a proper
replacement cycle. We recommend that you have the
oil filter replaced once every two oil changes
at a Mitsubishi authorized dealer.
