While the oil filter is designed to remove impurities from the engine oil to maintain clean oil, the filter gradually becomes clogged through continued use. When this happens, some of the oil will go through the bypass path without going through the filtering section because the passage area of oil shrinks due to clogging. In other words, oil containing impurities enters the engine’s lubrication system, causing overheating or even serious damage to the engine.
